Who Are the Beggars of Christ Missionaries?
Beggars of Christ is presently a developing lay missionary community and is not a canonically established religious institute or officially recognized Catholic organization. We desire to seek appropriate ecclesiastical guidance as we continue discerning our future within the Catholic Church.
Beggars of Christ Missionaries (BOC) is a developing community of Catholic lay women who desire to follow Jesus Christ through a life of prayer, surrender, healing, and missionary service.
At the heart of our spirituality is a simple truth: before God, we are all beggars. Everything we have and everything we are comes from Him. We depend completely upon His Divine Providence, Mercy, Grace, and Love.
To be a Beggar of Christ is first to recognize our own poverty before God. Before we can bring Christ to others, we must first allow Him to enter our own hearts, heal our wounds, transform our lives, and draw us into a deeper relationship with Him.
Our identity is not found in what we possess, what we accomplish, or what the world calls us. Our identity is found in the great “I AM,” Jesus Christ, the One to whom we surrender our lives and the One who sends us forth to serve.
A Beggar of Christ Missionary therefore begins her mission within her own soul. She seeks first to grow in holiness and intimacy with Jesus. She then strives to live that mission faithfully within her own vocation and responsibilities, as a daughter, wife, mother, widow, or single woman. From this foundation, she may be called to participate in the broader missionary works of the Beggars of Christ and Fatima Outreach Foundation.
We seek to live with humility, simplicity, trust in Divine Providence, surrender to God’s Holy Will, devotion to the Eucharist, love for the Blessed Virgin Mary, fidelity to the teachings of the Catholic Church, and compassion for those who are wounded, poor, forgotten, or suffering.
We do not claim that we ourselves can heal another person. Jesus Christ is the Divine Healer. We simply desire to become His instruments, bringing His presence, mercy, hope, and love wherever He sends us.
Begging for His Mercy.
Surrendering to His Holy Will.
Sharing His Divine Healing with others.
All for Jesus, through Jesus, with Jesus, and in Jesus.
Our Spiritual Motto
Begging for Mercy.
Surrendering to His Holy Will.
Bringing His Divine Healing to Others.
All Through Jesus, With Jesus, and In Jesus!
We Are Not Just Followers. We Are Beggars.
A Beggar of Christ comes before Jesus with empty hands, a faithful and humble heart, and the recognition that without Him, we can do nothing. We come to Him aware of our complete need for His Mercy, Grace, Love, and Divine Providence, and in Him, we discover the One who is everything.
To call ourselves beggars is not an identity of shame or worthlessness. It is an acknowledgment of poverty of spirit, the blessed poverty Jesus speaks of in the Gospel. We recognize that everything is a gift, every breath, every grace, every healing, every opportunity to love, and every strength we possess to serve another.
We are beggars who know that we are also beloved children of the Father.
We come with open hands, tear stained prayers, wounded hearts, and childlike trust in the Father who loves, provides, forgives, restores, and saves.
A Beggar of Christ does not begin by trying to change the world. She begins by allowing Jesus Christ to change her.
Before we can serve others, we must first receive His Mercy.
Before we can speak of healing, we must allow Jesus to enter our own wounds.
Before we can lead another soul toward Christ, we must first surrender ourselves to His Holy Will.
Before we can become missionaries, we must first become His.
Only then can we go forth, not relying upon our own strength, but as humble instruments through whom Jesus Christ may bring His Mercy, Hope, Love, and Divine Healing into a wounded world.
We beg.
We receive.
We surrender.
And then, we are sent.
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
Matthew 5:3
